skis for change

The Skis for Change Marketplace is part of the broader Skis for Change program. This innovative fundraising and community-building enterprise by and for skiers includes:

  • The marketplace - a peer-to-peer, online platform for buying, selling and donating new and used skis gear while raising money for charity and reducing waste.

  • The annual Skis for Change event at J Skis in Burlington, Vermont, where ski-related goods, services, and experiences are auctioned at a vibrant celebration of skiing and giving.

  • Collecting unwanted skis and delivering them to artisans so that they can be transformed into art and furniture instead of being dumped in landfills.

Skis for Change is a community-powered resale marketplace striving to make outdoor recreation more sustainable, accessible, and inclusive. Launched by the Vermont-based Pennywise Foundation, the platform connects skiers and riders who want to extend the life of their gear and contribute to a more circular outdoor economy. By buying, selling, or donating new and gently used gear and clothing, participants not only reduce waste and lower the cost of entry to winter sports—they also directly support nonprofit organizations expanding equitable access to and the preservation of the outdoors.

At the heart of Skis for Change is a belief in grassroots giving: that small, intentional actions—like repurposing unused equipment or choosing to shop secondhand—can have a lasting impact. All sales on the marketplace benefit Pennywise- a public charity dedicated to supporting other nonprofits prioritizing sustainability- and our ski related and environmental partners. Recent beneficiaries have included Vermont Adaptive Ski & Sports and the High Fives Foundation. Inspired by the creativity and generosity of the ski community, we’re redefining what it means to gear up: not just for the mountain, but for a movement
